The short version

1. Who this policy covers

Audel is an iPhone app for managing money, goals and schedules, and this website is its homepage. Audel is developed and operated by Caleb Shim, an individual developer based in the United States (“I”, “me”, “we” or “Audel” in this policy). I am responsible for the personal information described here.

This policy explains what information the Audel app and website collect, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have. By using Audel you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information Audel collects

Account information

You sign in to Audel with Apple or Google. Audel receives a unique account identifier and, if the provider shares it, your email address. If you use Apple’s Hide My Email, Audel receives a private relay address instead of your real one. Audel does not receive your Apple or Google password.

What you create in the app

Budgets, categories and rules; goals, streaks and the progress you log; events, reminders and routines; and app settings such as which widgets appear on your Home screen and your notification preferences.

Messages and photos you send to the assistant

The text of your conversations with the assistant and any photos you attach (up to four per message), such as a picture of a paper planner you want turned into events.

Technical information

Like most online services, Audel’s servers record basic technical information when the app connects to them, such as IP address, device and app version, request times and error details. This is used to keep the service running, to secure it and to fix problems. Audel also counts your assistant usage to enforce a monthly allowance.

Audel does not include third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking software, and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

3. Information from services you connect

Bank accounts, through Plaid

If you connect a bank account, Audel uses Plaid to retrieve your account names, the last four digits of each account number, balances and transactions. You log in to your bank through Plaid, so Audel never sees or stores your bank credentials. Plaid’s handling of your information is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.

Audel’s access is read-only. Audel cannot move money, make payments, place trades or get around your bank’s confirmations. You can also add transactions by hand instead of connecting a bank.

Apple Health

If you choose to, you can let Audel read data from Apple Health, such as steps, workouts, sleep, nutrition, weight or mindful minutes, including data written there by other apps you use. Audel only reads the types you allow in iOS, and only uses them to update the goals you point at them and to answer questions you ask about them. Audel never writes data back to Apple Health.

Apple Health data is never used for advertising, marketing or data mining, is never sold, and is not shared with anyone except as needed to provide the feature you are using, as described in The assistant and Who your information is shared with. You can change or withdraw access at any time in the iOS Settings or Health app.

Location

If you pin a place for a goal (for example your gym), your iPhone watches for arrivals at that place and Audel records that you arrived and when, so the goal can count the visit. See What stays on your device.

Food lookups

If you scan a food barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts to look up its nutrition information. No account information is sent with it.

4. What stays on your device

5. The assistant

When you send a message to the assistant, Audel sends your message, any photos you attached and the information from your account needed to answer it (for example relevant transactions, budgets, goals, Apple Health values or events) to Google’s Gemini API, which generates the response. Google processes this information under its Gemini API terms.

If the assistant needs current information from the web, such as a race qualifying time or the nutrition facts of a food, it sends a search query to Brave Search. Search queries are written by the assistant for the lookup and do not include your account details.

The assistant asks for your confirmation before deleting goals, budgets or events. Audel does not use your information to train AI models.

6. How your information is used

Audel does not sell your personal information, does not share it for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising, and does not show ads.

7. Who your information is shared with

Audel shares information only with the service providers that help run it, and only the information each one needs:

ProviderWhat it doesWhat it receives

Audel may also disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, to protect the rights, safety or property of its users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the app, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information or you will be notified of any change.

8. How long it is kept, and deleting it

Your information is kept for as long as you have an Audel account, so the app can show your history, budgets and progress.

Some technical logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, and information may be kept longer where the law requires it.

9. Security

Information is encrypted in transit between the app and Audel’s servers and encrypted at rest in Audel’s database. Access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but Audel works to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects it.

10. Your choices and rights

You can see and edit most of your information directly in the app, and delete it as described above. You can also email support@audel.ai to:

Depending on where you live, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and California, you may have additional rights under local law, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Audel will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. Requests will be answered within the time the law requires, and Audel may need to verify your identity first.

Where the GDPR applies, Audel processes your information to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract), for its legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and working, with your consent for optional features such as Apple Health, location and the microphone, and to meet legal obligations.

11. Children

Audel is not intended for children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets a higher age, and does not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided information to Audel, contact support@audel.ai and it will be deleted.

12. Where your information is processed

Audel is operated from the United States and your information is processed and stored in the United States and in other countries where its service providers operate. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers.

13. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as Audel changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. If a change is significant, you will be told in the app or by email before it takes effect.

14. Contact

Questions, requests or concerns about your privacy can be sent to Caleb Shim at support@audel.ai.
